The most easy and also the most sure way to contact water scouts in Czech Republic is through our International Committee (just specify interest about water scout). They arrange contact between troops, inexpensive accommodation in scout houses, and also participation on event of water scouts.

 

Water Scouts in Czech Republic

The Czech republic is country with no sea. Therefore, we call Sea scouts "just" as water scouts. Although we have this handicap, the land is rich in white water rives and creeks optimal for kayaking, lakes suitable for sailing and flat water rivers open o canoeing and paddling activities. Boat trips have long tradition and water sports are one form most favorites. Naturally, the water scouting in our country has played since the beginning of the scout movement important role.

Organization of Czech Water Scouts

 

People in our Organization

In 2005 was number of Czech water scouts 4821 (more then 10% from the overall number of scouts in Czech), from that is 2881 adults, 1940 children in 161 units.

Age Categories

  • cubs, brownies 5-11 years
  • scouts-12-15 years
  • rovers and rangers 16-18 years
  • adults more then 18 years old

Main Activities of Waterscouts in Czech

Activity, Education and Training of Children

  • Education in units or groups -mainly once a week meetings for children in clubrooms or outside. A new book guides are prepared now.
  • One or more days trips outside to the nature (on boats, on foot, on ski,.....)
  • Every unit has a summer camp - mainly 14 or 21 days in the nature. After the end of the stay is the camp completely takes in the parts or it can be travelling camp.
  • Running on river by canoes or kayaks - from the very easy to very difficult rivers in Czech or abroad.
  • Sailingon the lakesand dam reservoirs. Every year we organize trips on sailing yachtson Adriatic sea.

Education and Training of Young People

Provided by Naval Academy of Czech water scouts

  • ten days course in summer holiday
  • focus to basic of leading and water activities, scout ideas and methods, structure of organisation and its history, safety ect. 

Education of adults

A) School of woodcraft for water scouts

  • - includes three weekend and twoweek meetings
  • -a part of this "school" is water instructor qualification
  • -woodcraft, practiseon the water
  • -etc.

B) Meeting of captains

Meeting of heads of units, groups and headquarters anually 2x per year. The strategy for the future is solved, races and other meetings (NAVIGAMUS) are prepared. Include special lecture in acutual topic like new education programs, first aim, etc.

Other public activities of water scouts in Czech

  • The best known meeting „Czech water scouts national jamboree" is NAVIGAMUS - every 3 years.
  • Interesting race is every September - "OVER THREE WEIRS"- its about 5 km long race of punts in historical centre of Prague on river Vltava.
  • SKAPA -scouts paddling - 1x per year-speed raceof „unsailed" punts.
  • Meander of Mimon - 1x per year-race on Ploucnice river.
  • Unlocking (in spring) and locking (in autumn) of rivers.
  • And many others.....

Punt P550

Basic idea is to make boat suitable for sailing and also for white water padling but it should by also boat usefull for scout patrols.

This project was started sometimes in 1994-1995. This sort of boat originate due to absence of small sailboat for Czech water scouts, canoes and kayaks and home-made boats were used until that time only. It was initiated by a very (2-4) small group of enthusiasts and many skeptical resounds were in the first period. It turned out that this boat has nearly perfect characteristic for sailing on ponds, lakes, reservoirs (primarily) and going for river trips on relatively wild water (secondary).

This punt is very often used by water scouts in Czech. The number of boats is about 150 boats now. This boat is suitable for river trips and for sailing close to the banks of ponds or water reservoirs. Not for large open water surface.

The whole project was funded mainly from a modest budget of Main headquarters of Czech water scouts. Main part of the work (thousands of hours) was worked voluntarily.

 

The price of fully equiped sailed boat is 3500 €. Delivery date is about 2-5 months depends on the utilization of producer. Order is possible through our International committee.

  • With using of special deckhouse the emergency passing of the night is possible for four people.
  • P550 is sensitive to longitudinal balancing. Uniform placing of baggage and people is necessary.
